The
Virginian Jennifer (3 November 1965) Appearing as Johnny Bradford Broadcast 3 November 1965 on the NBC television network. Synopsis by curator@jmdigitalscrapbook.com: Henry Garth's (Lee J. Cobb) sister and her husband have died and now their daughter, Jennifer (Diane Roter), will be coming from Boston to live with him. Everyone at Shiloh ranch is busy getting ready for her arrival. Meanwhile, in the nearby town of Tylerville, a sinister-looking man lurks behind a newspaper, keeping a watchful eye on the saloon. After a while, Johnny Bradford (James MacArthur) exits. When he catches sight of the stranger, he is terrified. He panics, turning on his heel and fleeing through the back streets of town. The stranger pursues at a leisurely pace, obviously confident that he has his prey. Johnny finally breaks into an abandoned building and hides beneath a staircase. The stranger enters the same building and strolls through cockily. From his hiding place, Johnny waits until he has a clear shot, takes careful aim, and fires one round, killing the stranger. Abruptly, Johnny is no longer a frightened man hiding. His face transforms into a satisfied sneer as he saunters toward the dead man. Chuckling to himself, he reaches into his pocket and tosses a few coins at the dead man, then adjusts his coat jauntily and leaves. Jennifer's stage pulls into town on its way to Medicine Bow and Johnny boards. He is charming and friendly and Jennifer is filled with questions about life in the Wild West, which Johnny is only too happy to answer. The beginnings of a friendship form as the coach makes its way closer to her new home. Arriving in Medicine Bow, Jennifer is greeted by her uncle and welcomed to town and she bids her new friend goodbye as he continues on his journey. Later, while touring Shiloh with The Virginian (James Drury), they are surprised to find Johnny living in an abandoned shack at the edge of the ranch property. Jennifer intercedes with her uncle and soon Johnny has a job as a ranch hand at Shiloh. Who is Johnny Bradford and why is he really at Shiloh? Is he really the good guy he appears to be or is there something more sinister in his background?
