Death Valley Days
Spring Rendezvous (19 January 1968)

Appearing as Kit Carson

Broadcast 19 January 1968 on independent affiliate stations.

The following episode synopsis was retrieved from the Death Valley Days archives by the program's official spokesperson 'The Old Ranger' and is reprinted here with permission:

James MacArthur stars as mountain man Kit Carson in "Spring Rendezvous," the story of how he averted an Indian massacre and won a pretty squaw bride on Death Valley Days, in color. Robert Taylor hosts.

On his way to the spring rendezvous in Green River, Wyoming, in 1835, young Carson admits to his guide and friend, Billy Mitchell (Timothy Scott), that he hopes to claim Waa-Nibe (Brioni Farrell), the Arapaho girl he had met the year before. At the encampment Kit is disturbed to find that his attentions toward Waa-Nibe have angered a jealous bully, Shumer (Gregg Palmer), renegade Canadian trapper who works for the American Fur Company agent, Major Drips (Patrick O'Moore). When the drunken Shumer menaces Waa-Nibe and her father, Chief Running-In-A-Circle (Ned Romero), tension mounts. At a ceremonial dance, Waa-Nibe indicates her preference for Kit. The enraged Shumer stalks and attacks her, but she nicks him with a knife and flees. The incident arouses the Arapahos and Carson challenges Shumer to a duel on horseback to placate the Indians.

Harmon Jones directed the Willard Davis Jr. teleplay. Robert Stabler produced for Madison Productions. Filmed at Kanab, Utah.
